The Sonarworks system can be purchased in two different ways: The Sonarworks XREF 20 Measurement Microphone ships with no case or clip (not a deal breaker in my opinion). From what we understand ARC 2.5 isn't a major rework of the software, instead, the application performs a better job of measuring the room as the MEMS microphone is far superior to the previous ARC measurement microphone.

We have yet to try the updated ARC 2.5 software update with new MEMS microphone but we will get a system in over the next few months for review. Below is what IK Multimedia say about the new MEMS Microphone: “The microphone is built around an omnidirectional, high precision MEMS capsule that ensures maximum response accuracy and stability over time In contrast to standard condenser measurement microphones, which are potentially subject to subtle frequency response variations over time, MEMS technology is far more stable.” IK Multimedia recently announced the update of the ARC system that introduces a new type of MEMS Measurement Microphone. UPDATE: IK Multimedia Announce ARC Update - ARC 2.5 Room Correction System With New MEMS Measurement Microphone ARC 2 software is available as a bundle that includes a measurement microphone, a small mic clip and hard case. Measuring The Studio With Both Microphonesīoth Sonarworks & IK Multimedia supply their own types of measurement microphones, both are similar in design. I've used Sonarworks Reference 3 room calibration software for a few years, previously using IK Multimedia’s room correction system ARC 2. In this article, I compare the two room correction systems based on my experiences with both in the studio. The software has since been endorsed by many Grammy-award winning mixing and mastering engineers and has won several industry awards and accolades.Room Correction software is a two-step measurement and calibration process that improves the frequency response and performance of studio monitoring.

Sonarworks’ flagship professional audio product, Reference 4 software, removes unwanted coloration and delivers the same accurate studio reference sound on all speakers and headphones. Sonarworks began in 2012 when two music lovers met a scientist - a perfect storm of acoustic know-how and passion for good sound soon became the software that’s currently transforming sound monitoring.

The full release notes can be found on the Sonarworks website – The Reference 4.3 update is available free to current users. Striving to support the growing demand and trend for mixing on headphones, the update takes the supported headphone count to 232 with these new models:
“For this release, we decided to rewrite Systemwide from ground up with the main aim of improving set-up experience for new users, though we couldn’t help adding some improvements for our existing users as well!” Said Viesturs Marnauza, Product Owner of Reference 4 in an internal newsletter to employees. Having worked hard doing internal research and external testing, the new filter serves as a good middle ground to deliver accurate frequency response and sound quality without introducing significant latency. The Reference 4.3 update also introduces a mixed filter mode with a much-needed improvement over the previous “optimum” version. The UI on both macOS and Windows can now be switched to dark mode, a long requested feature from the night-owls of the Sonarworks community.
